Still our favourite
No power, pain in the ass to get in and out of but very few cars come close to the S2 in pure driving fun.
We have done a few mods to our little Lotus including our bespoke exhaust system, EBC brake pads and race gearshift which all have upped the driving fun factor but we have a few more tricks up our sleeves before we are 100% finished.
Our temporary alloy diffuser needs to change to carbon fibre, suspension needs a wee look and could we get a bit more power in here?
The 2005 Lotus Elise Series 2 111R is a lightweight, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car that exemplifies Lotus's philosophy of achieving performance through minimal weight. This model is renowned for its agile handling and spirited driving experience.
Engine and Performance: At the heart of the 111R is a 1.8-liter Toyota 2ZZ-GE inline-four engine, producing 192 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 180 Nm of torque at 6,800 rpm. This high-revving engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, enabling the Elise 111R to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of around 229 km/h.
Chassis and Suspension: The Elise 111R features a bonded aluminum chassis that provides exceptional rigidity while keeping the overall weight low, contributing to its renowned handling characteristics. The suspension setup includes double wishbones at both the front and rear, ensuring precise control and responsiveness.
Braking and Safety: Equipped with ventilated disc brakes on all four corners, the 111R offers strong and reliable stopping power. Additionally, this model comes with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard, enhancing safety during aggressive driving or adverse conditions.
Interior and Features: The interior of the Elise 111R is minimalist, focusing on the driving experience. Standard features include sport seats, a leather steering wheel, and a basic audio system. Optional amenities such as air conditioning, power windows, and a premium sound system were available for added comfort.
Dimensions and Weight: Maintaining Lotus's commitment to lightweight design, the 111R has a curb weight of approximately 860 kg. Its compact dimensions contribute to its nimbleness, making it well-suited for both spirited driving and track use.
Overall, the 2005 Lotus Elise 111R stands out as a pure driver's car, offering an engaging and exhilarating experience that aligns with Lotus's heritage of performance through lightness.
